Beauty of Punk rock meets Christmas

I'm already having that nostolgic feeling like I will remember this flash as one of my favorites this holiday season. I can definitely relate to Rudolph the mohawk reindeer. The animation was smooth, along with rapid fire comedy, and a pinch of sickmindedness. "So he shoved the guitar up santa's ass.." Is that James Joyce? Beautiful flash

ThePrimatePunk responds:

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

I knew this would be good...

When I couldn't stop cracking up at the loading page music and it's context in general. I would have liked to see this go on for a bit longer, the punchline at the end felt a bit sudden for an ending, but in all I enjoyed this and I hope you continue making shorts. :) Your animation mixed with those tiny sounds was great to haha

vlaktemaat responds:

Thanks I will!

Pretty darn cute

I liked the simplistic PBS style you were going for, and I think is really fitting. You mentioned you'd like some feedback, and come to think of it the only thing I'd like to see would be instead of photos for "the engine, the cargo hold, ect.." actually have them be drawn. none the less though they convey the idea though. I was surprised to see a gun-man in one of the pictures too haha. Maybe having the characters intergrated with the live action pictures as well like you did with the first ones. Otherwise it was something I would expect to see on PBS which is what you are going for. :)

RicePirate responds:

Yeah ... I think I'm probably gonna take the gunman out, it's been mentioned by a number of people. And yeah, i think the idea of integrating them into the photos (rather than just photos or just drawings) will be the way.

Not the most deeply metaphorical short

But something worth watching atleast. You seem to be very good with frame by frame, as well as potential with flash, it's hard to believe this is your first time making anything. Its a shame about the time constraints, but now I think you should work on making a real story with your on par animation strengths.

Zhon responds:

I've done a few tests/practice animations but never anything like this. Thank you for your comments and compliments! It means a lot to me :)

Mixing of metaphors or memes

It seems there are a couple of people that don't understand, but you were basically using a meme (captain falcon) to destroy over-used memes, which made it even funnier. It was smart in that sense. I liked the animation and the pacing as well.

RicePirate responds:

Yeah, I'm noticing that people don't understand that this is an ANTI-meme flash ... yes, using memes ... hopefully to the point of being annoying rather than funny... but ... I guess that message is getting lost.

Talented but needs better exposition.

I gave you a 9 because I know first hand how hard these sprites are to work with, and you made them look pretty decent, although sometimes they are messy looking no matter what. Still you should look to combined different mediums to make the sprites look better, like from other games, but that is up to you. Story line was a typical first episode of a series, it did characterize one cliche aspect of that by not revealing much of the story line making this episode a bit dry and ambiguous. I know what you went for by not revealing too much, but you should have revealed a bit more, in my opinion. Keep trying to blend humor into your epic and it should turn out original. Good luck. Oh and maybe some voice actors too ;) can't hurt

SyuleeArbe responds:

I felt it was missing something I just couldn't figure out what :s. I'm trying to stay true to the original sprite style and only adding custom sprites that I or others have made... But maybe in the next one I can find a way to make them look better or even a little bit different. Thanks for the advice!

@ Philiolioso

It might be a realist's attempt at trying to categorize the difference between behaving internally or externally, but in truth the idea is that changing individual thought patterns changes the world. While there is no solid proof of this, it is clear that the better our value system is, the more human wellness that can be spread. I believe this was the authors message.

In regards to science being able to prove everything, you've forgotten the difference between finite and infinite. We are finite beings, and when we die, we become infinite. There is so much we don't know is the point, and making assumptions defeats growth. Acknowledging the existence of spirit is essential with living a life with moral values and helping others. I'd hope these are the types of questions the author would want us to think about.

RiverJordan responds:

"We are not humans with souls, but rather souls that temporarily inhabit physical bodies."

Thanks for the review, glad this resonated with you :)

An interesting metaphor for consumption

Atleast that's what I got out of it. I like how it depicted the man as thoughtlessly doing these things in a routine, not caring where it came from. The animation was nicely done, the begining was my favorite. Mice and a toaster.. hmm I would love to hear your intentionality behind that

Eightsquare responds:

and the toaster bit is because my friend found a mouse in his toaster once, so i always think of mice when i use mine...(his house id disgusting srsly)

Enjoyeable, you put alot of work into this

I can understand the subtleties in enjoying these kinds of cartoons. Just some good old slap stick. One itch I have though would be that some of the jokes I have seen before in so many ways, making the entirety of it predictable. However in this case, the characters were enough to make it well played. But be careful being overly reliant on the delivery of the jokes in such a traditional standard. Original jokes are easily adaptable around this type of humor, to maybe give the audience something it hasn't seen. Just my opinion though.

KFoxyFox responds:

You do have a point. When I made this I did play along with a role-reversal of the Road Runner formula - but after my last Flash animations I decided I wanted to make something more safe and approchable for once ^^. I might give drama a go again someday.

Alright that was the punchline I guess

Kind of lame in my opinion. I could have seen more being done with it, than just having a punchline be out of shock and randomness. But for randomness, it was kind of stale.

Leezone responds:

I can appreciate an honest review, thanks for the feedback ^^

My kind of soldier you can ride on my shoulders when you've won.
